Software Engineer (Web / Product Development)

Job Description:

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to work as part of the core team of developers building cutting-edge technology in a consumer-oriented, innovative, Web 2.0 startup environment? Then, Zoodango is the place for you.
Zoodango is working on an exciting group of social web products that help answer the questions of "where should I go?" and "what should I do?" based on your location and social graph. We have a position for a web-savvy software engineer to come on board to help take our website to the next level. You will work directly with a small core team of seasoned technology/business professionals who have a broad array of experience in delivering consumer-oriented software for the web. We are an innovative early-stage startup with endless opportunities on the ground floor, and thus, an entrepreneurial spirit is a must!
We are looking for someone with a passion for Ruby on Rails and agile development who can play a vital role in the company's development and strategy while collaborating with a great team. You will be involved in building out core features and helping to create a scalable architecture at all layers (both front-end/back-end) of a consumer-oriented website.

Location:

Full-time in Seattle, WA

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science (or closely related field)
  • At least 2-3 years of professional software development experience
  • At least 1-2 years designing stable and high-performance web application solutions with complex requirements, demanding specifications, and rapid development cycles
  • 6 months to a year of hands-on development experience with Ruby on Rails is highly desired
  • Solid programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Java, C/C++, C#, or similar
  • Good to proficient skills in one or more of the following: Ruby, Python, Perl, or similar
  • Strong understanding of and real-world experience with object-oriented design and development
  • Track record of developing and launching scalable Internet products
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and contribute new ideas required in a diverse, fast-paced, team environment
  • Strong experience with Linux, Apache, MySQL, HTML/XHTML/W3C DOM, CSS, AJAX/JavaScript libraries (e.g. Prototype/Scriptaculous)
  • Strong competency with relational database design & development
  • System administration experience on RedHat-based systems a plus!
