Our dreams reveal much about us. I'm not talking about the kind of dreams in our sleep....but I'm talking about the dreams of reality and consciousness. When I was in 7th grade, I had dreams about being the first Asian-American to play in the NBA. I loved basketball so much that I could feel the rolling tip of the leather in my hands as I shot the winning freethrow to win the game in front of millions of viewers on television. I could literally feel my heart pounding in anticipation and nervousness, but I then saw myself overcoming the emotions with an injection of cold blooded competitiveness. Ice in the veins.
Now, I realize I will never be in the NBA. I'm 30 years old....I'm 5'10.....and I don't have a quarter of the skills of Jason Kidd. But here's what I realize......dreams of the playing in the NBA in front of millions of viewers wasn't too far from reality. I look at it like this. I was born 5'10 and not 6'10.....physically, I've got a huge disadvantage by nature and not necessarily nurture. Sure, I could have "TRIED" to nurture my way to 6'10, but it would have never happened. On the flip side, I also started building a huge passion for business and entrepreneurship at a young age. It was basically basketball and business. It just hit me....instead of playing ball in front of millions of viewers, I got a chance to play business in front of 10 million viewers. Our dreams should never be underestimated. Dreams come from the deepest core of who we are. Maybe the external interpretations of our dreams are not 100% accurate, but the internal passion and heart of our dreams are TRUE.
So what are my dreams now? At age 30, I feel like I can start dreaming again. I feel like my life is just starting. This is not to diminish my first 30 years.....these years were so important and so memorable, but it's time to start dreaming again. I've got a dream. My dream is to build an international media outlet that combines the Eastern and Western world. Is this a big dream....you better believe it! Our world is changing....globalization opens up many doors....we must be careful to open each door, but it's an inevitability of our world. I look very positively to our future together. I hope for bigger dreams for each generation of life. Keep dreaming.
