Be Engaged With Your Team

Are you engaged with your team? Your team includes direct reports, co-workers, part-time help, and outsourced consultants. Most people are engaged with their internal team, but they lose touch with their external team. When you hire a consultant or outsource a project, you have to make sure you are engaged with their progress. Have them be part of the team. Treat them like a team member.

During the Las Vegas Trump Towers task, we hired a videographer and photographer to help take professional footage of the model units. I could have easily allowed them to roam free and do whatever they wanted, but I knew that it was important to guide them directly to get the right style of footage. Just because you hire professionals does not mean they will have the same "eye" as you. The professionals may be technically competent, but you have to be engaged with them to deliver the best final product.

You have to remember that no one will care about the project more than the owner of the project. As the owner, you have to be involved with everything. By all means, I'm not saying that you have to do 100% of the work in every category. You have to leverage your resources, but you still have to provide direct feedback and guidance. A great leader will always lead their troops into battle. Lead by engaging today.

Great job on the Apprentice James! I think your story is an inspiration to all young Korean-Americans and Korean-Canadians. Best of luck this Sunday!

James, sorry you did not win. I wonder what was the dialog that Trump did not like. I think you were terrific on the show and felt that you were robbed. However, you are already a winner.

I personally don't think Trump feels that James can be totally loyal to his organization while trying to grow Zoodango and take it to the next level.

It's just a theory, but I think it may have something to do with the question: "The Trump organization, or Zoodango?"

James, I cannot believe that you didn't win... wow... I was pretty shocked considering the fact that you played big on every task and Trump ALWAYS seemed to ask for your opinion on things. Good luck on the presentation at UW this coming week. Unfortunately, I will be out of town, but hopefully I will get a chance to meet you in person one day. Thanks for being an inspiration!

James great job on the Apprentice! I was surprised you didn't get the Apprentice...but, in my opinion you were the most qualified. You're a champ!! =) You did great and it was good to see your leadership skills, enthusiasm, "creativity" all shine throughout the show! I know you will always be blessed and successful in everything!

I think it's a shame Trump didn't hire you -What dialogue was he referring to?

You're still a winner in mine eyes!

Now you can focus all your leadership and courage for your emerging company and see it grow prodigiously!!!

and Trust me it will!
