My Life Story...
My childhood began on a summer camp outside Tulsa Oklahoma. Every three weeks I made 150 new friends, and spent my days riding horses, canoeing, and eating breakfast, lunch and dinner in a dinning hall. Meals included ice cream scoop portions of mashed potatoes, peas, cartons of milk, and lots of singing.
Although my family had little in the way of money or social status, it made no difference to me. What I learned before the importance of money was the importance of a quality life. Both my parents were home every evening, and in their absence during the afternoon, my two older brothers looked after my well being.
At the age of seven, we moved to rural western North Carolina. This transition taught me the complexity of organized religion, public school, and adolescents. I learned how to navigate mountain roads at high speeds, and that there is no stopping gossip in a small town.
In 2000 I was accepted to Appalachian State University where I earned a B.S. in communication, a strong dislike for all domestic, non-microbrew beer, and a love for nature. Upon graduation I served as a student instructor for ASU, facilitating a summer course in Wales. We focused on international volunteerism, environmental sustainability, and outdoor programs. The five months proceeding this course I traveled through Ireland, Scotland, and England volunteering with the World WIde Organization of Organic Farming (WWOOF).
After returning to the United States I moved to New York, New York where I served as a personal assistant and nanny. I wanted to see what Manhattan was really like, so for one year I played at the Met, saw every on and off-Broadway show of interest, braved snow and heat and taxis and trains. During that year my heart remained in nature and I often retreated to New Paltz where I cultivated a new passion for rock climbing. Rock climbing became a new focus of my life, which it remains today.
A year in New York was enough for me. Making one contact on the west coast, I moved to Sacramento California. In Sacramento I focussed my time and energy on climbing and hiking. Yosemite, Tahoe, the Sierras, Kings Canyon, and Pinnacle National Forest are but a few of the playgrounds that filled my appointment book. I taught rock climbing at a local gym and directed a kids summer climbing camp.
At 24 I began to think seriously about my future as a professional. While money has never been a driving force for me; stability, hapiness and unlimited opportunity has. I felt unprepared for the professional world with my undergraduate degree and desired more specific trainning.
During the fall of 2006 I moved to Seattle, Washington to begin graduate work at Seattle University. I am currently obtaining a masters in education, focusing on Student Development Administration for post-secondary education. So many of my most memorable life experiences and friendships have been fostered through student development programs. I am passionate about this line of work and the students that I am involved with. Ideally I would like to continue working with many different universities around the world serving as a liason, consultant and advocate for SDA programs.

About My Job...
I have a wonderful position at Seattle University working in the office of Commuter and Transfer Student Services. I coordinate a space on campus for undergraduate students studying Science, Engineering and Nursing. This space is open to commuter students in those fields to study, relax, each lunch, and most importantly build community and connect with the campus.
I have the priviledge of working with four wonderful and talented staff that assist in the daily operation of the space. These students have helped me begin to cultivate my leadership and supervisory style. I also am honored to work for an amazing director, Diane Schmitz, who oversees all commuter and transfer services. Her leadership is a model and guide for me every day. I have learned so much through her mentorship and look forward to the next year and a half I will serve as coordinator in this position.
