My Life Story...
Founder of Global Music Project, musician Peter Fosso has been in and around music for a number of years and is known for his dedication to music and philanthropic efforts. During the 1990s, Fosso founded Insight Records, a label whose sole purpose was to support up-and-coming local artists. Seattle Women In Rock, the most popular release on the label, was a benefit for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and garnered national reviews including Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly. Another Insight release, The New Seattle Music Scene helped raise awareness for the National Campaign for Freedom of Expression. Both compilation CDs are still available at InsightRecords.com and in the rare music section of NetMusic.com.
Fosso also has published a local music trade magazine which started as a newsstand publication and then moved to an Internet-only format. He then went on to form Life Like Feel, a Seattle pop/rock group known for their creativity and powerful presentation. The group performed in the Pacific Northwest from 1994-1999 and released their debut self-titled CD on Phisst Records, an independent label, nationally-distributed through Navarre. During that same period, he also launched NetMusic.com, which evolved into a popular music site and became a publicly traded company. (The company later changed its name business model, and is currently trading under the symbol ETYN.)
Currently, in addition to helping manage the day-to-day operations of Global Music Project, Fosso is the U.S. representative for Music2Deal, the international networking site for music industry professionals. He also occasionally advises companies in their development as their consultant, and is a voting member for the Recording Academy, the organization best known for its annual Grammy Awards telecast. He serves on the advisory boards of several companies, including the non-profit, Last Call. As founder of Global Music Project he is always looking for ways to grow the organization and spread the word. "My intention," Fosso explains, "is to launch a worldwide effort to preserve music threatened by globalization." Global Music Project's mission is to better the world through music while it also helps to promote artists and assist other non-profit organizations in growing their online communities with its community platform product.
