My Life Story...
I started as a newspaper reporter, was being groomed to be the next business editor for the Richmond News Leader but I never felt at home in the Capitol of the Confederacy and then worked as a bureau chief at another daily paper, switched to public relations, advertising, and ultimately management in financial services. I ran a business unit -- retirement trust resources -- for a trust company in Chicago and realized my dream to live on the West Coast by joining Smith Barney as a regional sales director, then financial consultant.

About My Job...
As a financial advisor, my philosophy is to make money slowly, according to each client’s priorities. That means planning and investing with clarity and caution.
The “millionaire next door” made his or her million by spending and investing with clarity – not buying things that will be next year’s garage sale items – and caution – not investing without understanding the risks involved.
Being cautious doesn’t mean avoiding all risks. In fact, fear of loss is the number one reason inexperienced investors lose money in the markets. Cautious means:
* Knowing where you stand (having a plan) before you invest;
* Never forgetting that investing is a loser’s game – the way to make money is by not losing it. Manage risk first, then return.
This sums up my business philosophy:
* Have a plan before you invest.
* Invest with the (updated) plan in mind.
* Make money slowly.
* Avoid high-risk/high-return “opportunities.”
