Job: Systems Engineer

Duration: 6m CTH, or straight contract (depends on consultant’s preference)

Bill Rate: (pay $40-$45 max)

Job Summary:
The Systems Engineer will provide server management, user support, and network support for All Star Directories. This will include supporting Red Hat Linux operating systems, Windows XP/2003 operating systems, VMWare, printers, mail servers and clients, Apache, MySQL, NFS, and PHP. The Systems Engineer will also participate in complex projects, and may act as the technical lead on projects. The Systems Engineer will also act as a mentor, teacher, and escalation point for System Administrators.

Core Job Responsibilities:

Complex project work requiring time management, technical skills, and excellent communication
User support using web based ticketing system and established SLA's
Application deployment, configuration, and support
Server patching, updating, configuration, and support
Database administration, configuration, and support (MySQL)
Designing, Implementing, and Documenting monitoring strategies for key platforms and services
Apache administration, configuration, and support
Providing friendly, thorough, and accurate support to users
Providing mentoring to Systems Administrators and other positions
Evangelize established best practices to the organization
This position may participate in an rotating on-call schedule requiring response times 24 hours a day
Other duties as assigned
Core Job Requirements:

B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
3-4 years work experience with Windows (2000/2003/XP)
3-4 years work experience with Linux (Red Hat preferred), SQL databases (MySQL preferred, others such as MS SQL or Oracle a plus), email and web servers (Apache preferred, others such as J2EE a plus), and scripting (Perl, Bash, Batch)
Experience working on, and leading, complex technical projects
Experience with Internet protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, POP3, IMAP, MAPI, SSL)
